The UK has dropped its demand for Apple to create an iPhone “backdoor” under the Investigatory Powers Act. The long-running dispute stemmed from Apple’s refusal to comply, as the law would have let the government bypass end-to-end encryption and access private user data.

U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said on Monday the UK had agreed to drop its mandate for iPhone maker Apple to provide a "backdoor" that would have enabled access to the protected encrypted data of American citizens.
