Hurricane Erin is moving closer to the Eastern seaboard, bringing dangerous rip currents and flood risks that have prompted evacuation orders and states of emergency in two North Carolina counties.

Evacuations were ordered on islands along North Carolina’s Outer Banks even though the storm is unlikely to make direct landfall.

Hurricane Erin is poised to bring deadly rip currents to the entire US East Coast, as well as destructive waves and storm surge to North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

Hurricane Erin is currently making its way across the Atlantic, bringing with it flash flooding in Puerto Rico and affecting the Virgin Islands and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The hurricane's outer rain bands have started to affect the Bahamas, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.
