Shelter-in-place order lifted after cargo ship fire in San Pedro
The shelter-in-place order for Wilmington and San Pedro was lifted early Saturday morning after a fire broke on a cargo ship at the San Pedro port. The Los Angeles Fire Department said as of Saturday morning, firefighters were unable to access roughly 40 burning containers.
The fire broke out late on Friday night, spreading throughout its lower decks and torching cargo containers. Fears that the flames would consume and burn hazardous materials stored on the ship, a shelter-in-place order was put in effect for neighborhoods near the port.
