Republican lawmakers are pursuing the unusual mid-decade redistricting plan amid pressure from President Donald Trump to protect the GOP’s slim majority in the U.S. House.

The redistricting map now advancing through the House would add Liberty County to TX-9, unlike the map under consideration in the Senate. The district has long been represented by Democratic U.S. Rep.

The Texas House of Representatives’ committee on redistricting voted out of committee Monday evening a new version of a bill with proposed new congressional maps after it considered a version with some changes from the originally proposed maps.
