How Lukas Nmecha’s contentious late penalty saw Leeds edge past Everton at Elland Road
Leeds United edged past Everton 1-0 in the final match of the 2025-26 Premier League season’s opening weekend. Lukas Nmecha rolled home a late penalty (84’) after James Tarkowski was adjudged to have handled it inside the box.

Despite dominating the first half at Elland Road, Daniel Farke’s side couldn’t turn possession to goals. Everton grew into the game during the second 45 minutes, but a controversial James Tarkowski hand ball resulted in a penalty which was expertly converted by the substitute and debutant Nmecha.
