Federal immigration enforcement activity that led to an Oakland school lockdown started when agents in an unmarked SUV attempted to pull over a man.

The Department of Homeland Security shared details Thursday morning on immigration activity that took place the day before near Oakland's Hoover Elementary School, calling it a "targeted immigration enforcement operation.

On Tuesday, the city’s leaders voted down a $2 million contract with Flock Safety, the company that operates Oakland’s existing camera systems, after hundreds rallied against the threat of immigration authorities and other federal law enforcement spying on residents, bypassing the city’s sanctuary policies.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office informed the school district that ICE officers were in the area searching for two individuals.
