The Seahawks and 49ers will play Saturday night to determine who wins the NFC West and the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
A loss to the 49ers would sting. It would sting hard. But the Rams loss means the Seahawks have avoided the worst case scenario of dropping to the No. 6 seed, which would mean a road game at the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles or the Chicago Bears.
The Rams are out of the NFC West race and locked into the 5th or 6th seed, but there are plenty of reasons they shouldn't be resting starters yet.
Last week was a whirlwind for the Los Angeles Rams, to say the least, with their Pro Bowl receiver, Puka Nacua, getting into a controversy on a live stream, and then losing an overtime matchup against the Seattle Seahawks after surrendering a 16-point lead with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni is contemplating going for the second seed or resting his starters in Week 18 against the Commanders.
Not only can the Seahawks clinch the NFC West in Week 17, but Seattle can also clinch the top spot in the NFC this weekend, locking up the lone bye week in the conference playoffs. However, the Seahawks will need a lot of help from their division rivals to reach those two goals.
The 49ers and Seahawks will face off in Week 18 to determine the NFC West winner. The victor will also take home the No. 1 seed in the NFC and the bye week that comes with it.
