OpenAI CEO Sam Altman noted this month that generative AI could be a bubble, while at the same time promising trillions of dollars of data center and compute spend.

Sam Altman’s remarks come amid growing concerns by analysts and industry stakeholders about the pace of investment in AI and data centres moving too fast.

Many fears of an AI bubble had hit a fever pitch at the start of this year when Chinese start-up DeepSeek released a competitive reasoning model.
