Signs are pointing to the San Francisco 49ers releasing wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk at the end of the 2025 season, according to Dianna Russini and Michael Silver of The Athletic.

Aiyuk was expected to return to the field at some point this season after recovering from a devastating knee injury suffered last year, but as the season starts to wind down, things have only gotten more murky.

On Friday, Dowdle was being interviewed when a media member asked whether discussions had begun on the Panthers signing the sixth-year NFL veteran to a new contract to keep him with the organization. Dowdle's response was relatively short – just one word, actually – and it was not reassuring to those who want him to remain in Charlotte.

“Every week is an audition for me, being on a one-year contract ,” Dowdle told reporters in the Panthers’ locker room. “All 31 teams are always watching. So I wouldn’t say just this week in particular but I definitely know I’ve got to go out there and do my best.”
