NASA's Artemis 2 astronauts are gearing up for their planned 2026 moon launch by photographing an inflatable version of Earth's nearest neighbor.

The next astronauts to fly to the moon now have a mission patch to represent their journey. NASA debuted the official Artemis 2 insignia, its first emblem for a moon-bound crew in more than 50 years.

Artemis 2 is the second mission of NASA's Artemis Program, meant to establish a long-term human presence on the moon. Artemis 1 launched an uncrewed Orion into lunar orbit and back in Nov. 2022.

The Artemis 2 moon rocket's core stage is nearly fully assembled aside from the engines, according to NASA. The launcher will send astronauts to the moon as soon as 2024.

NASA and Freelancer announced on 15 August the 25 finalists in the “Moon Mascot: Artemis II ZGI Design Challenge.” The toy chosen will float inside Orion once microgravity begins.

Artemis 2 will be a joint mission between NASA and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to bring astronauts around the moon and back in 2024 or so.
