Novo Nordisk said on Monday it was offering its diabetes drug Ozempic for $499 per month to eligible cash-paying patients with type 2 diabetes in the U.S. via its own pharmacy, a tie-up with telehealth service GoodRx and other platforms.

Ozempic accidentally became a cultural phenomenon. The drug, first delivered to diabetes patients in 2017, had a huge impact on appetite suppression and weight loss. The weight management benefit made doctors start prescribing the drug off-label for patients hoping to thin waistlines.
