Trump says he's arranging a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin after hosting Ukrainian leader
Trump did not rule out the possibility of American troops helping to guarantee peace between Ukraine and Russia should the leaders reach an agreement.
Fiona Hill, who served as a Russia analyst on the National Security Council during Donald Trump ’s first term in office, said Sunday on CBS that Vladimir Putin’s decision to push baseless claims against mail-in voting during his summit with the U.S. president is a glaring “manipulation” tactic.
Trump began to tiptoe away from Putin and toward Zelenskyy in late April after Russia bombarded Kyiv with missiles. The president, however, is also reportedly considering land swaps, including Ukraine areas not currently occupied by the Russians, according to the New York Times, something U.S. allies have opposed in the past.
Trump said he and the Russian leader spoke last week about what they see as the problems with mail-in voting. Since then, Trump has pushed again for the U.S. to end the practice.
Trump didn’t end the fighting in Ukraine, but he picked up some praise from Putin about the Republican’s own domestic political fights.
As Trump and the leaders of European countries finished their family photo, the group was preparing to begin the summit in earnest.
In a letter posted online by President Trump, the first lady wrote to Russia’s leader of the “duty” to safeguard children, but didn’t mention Ukraine.
