President Trump intends to strip hundreds of Somalis living in the United States of the protected status they have had for decades under a program for immigrants from countries in crisis.

President Donald Trump Friday evening said he was ending deportation protections for Somalis in Minnesota "effective immediately."

"This is not just a bureaucratic change," said Jaylani Hussein, president of the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
