From the archives: Wilmington asks for lower speed limit on major road
According to an article in the Nov. 23, 1990, Wilmington Morning Star, the Wilmington City Council voted to ask to N.C. Department of Transportation to lower the speed on Shipyard Boulevard from 55 to 45 mph. NCDOT officials said a study was needed to determine an ideal speed limit since people will disregard it "if that sign is too high or low."
