President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a much more cordial Oval Office meeting in front of TV cameras Monday than the fiery eruption that took place in front of the room’s fireplace in February.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Monday was "very good" and "constructive," as European leaders met with the US leader to discuss security guarantees for Kiev.
It was a striking contrast to the meeting six months ago, when Trump, red-faced and angry, accused an agitated Zelensky of failing to show enough gratitude to the United States. The blowup was so heated that the Ukrainian delegation was sent from the White House without being allowed to eat their waiting lunch.
The vice-president upbraided him for ingratitude and he was accused of disrespecting the occasion by failing to wear a suit. This time around, weeks of coaching by European leaders paid off. Mr Zelensky thanked his host seven times in 50 seconds as cameras rolled in the Oval Office.
The meeting was a complete contrast to the Oval Office bust up in February, with the US President praising Mr Zelensky for his military-style suit - agreeing he looks 'fabulous'.
