The four justices of the first panel unanimously voted to uphold the preventive detention of former President Jair Bolsonaro. He has been held in a Federal Police facility in Brasília since Saturday.
On November 25th Jair Messias Bolsonaro, Brazil’s hard-right former president, began a 27-year jail sentence for attempting a coup after losing his re-election bid in 2022. Brazil’s Supreme Court found Mr Bolsonaro guilty in September.
Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered the preemptive arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro on Saturday, with a judge claiming he was intent on escaping just days before he was set to begin his 27-year prison sentence for leading a coup attempt.
