FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Matthew Tkachuk has started skating on his own, but the Florida Panthers forward is “a ways away” from returning to action, coach Paul Maurice said. Tkachuk has not played this season, having undergone surgery to repair a torn adductor muscle and a sports hernia on Aug. 22.
He suffered the injury in February while representing Team USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off and required an extended rehab process. The Panthers considered an initial return timeline that could extend into December. This week, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice issued the most encouraging update yet on Tkachuk’s status.
Senators coach Travis Green shared a key update on captain Brady Tkachuk’s recovery timeline, offering insight into the star forward’s status as Ottawa continues its road trip.
“Low and slow, low and slow, striding it out,” Tkachuk told his brother, Brady, of his first skate on the latest episode of the "Wingmen" podcast, which they co-host together. “This was the first time I’ve put on my skates, like legit, since Game 6 [of the Stanley Cup Final].”
