More than 40 million are on alert as the next winter storm is forecast to bring inclement weather from the Dakotas into northern New England over the coming days.
In Minnesota, forecasters warned of “potentially life-threatening travel conditions” as whiteout conditions reduced visibility. Heavy snow was expected over the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes.
At the Pacoima Wash in San Fernando, a person called 911 to report seeing a woman in the fast-moving waters, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Crews were using markers to try to find the woman, who was wearing all black and traveling at 25 miles per hour in three feet of water. They did not find her.
The National Weather Service said two more impulses will move through the area with the potential for flooding in the burn scar areas.
