Families of Israeli hostages kept captive in Gaza are calling for a nationwide general strike next Sunday, in protest of the Israeli security cabinet’s recent decision to expand the war and take over Gaza City.

Israel said it targeted well known reporter Anas al-Sharif and alleged he was part of Hamas, which Al Jazeera has denied.

Powerful blasts heard near a power station in Yemen’s capital. Houthi official blames an enemy strike, while Yemen’s electricity chief said power stations were bombed, causing a temporary outage. One report cites an Israeli strike.

Last week, Israel's far-right Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, announced the creation of thousands of new housing units in a large West Bank settlement bloc further south, saying it would "bury the idea of a Palestinian state".

Motasem al-Batta, his wife and their baby daughter were killed on Saturday in the tented encampment in southern Gaza. Israel designated al-Mawasi a so-called “humanitarian”, or “safe”, zone early in the war, but it has nonetheless repeatedly come under attack.

Israelis took to the streets on Sunday to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to expand operations in the Gaza Strip rather than attempt to negotiate an end to the war under which Hamas would free its last hostages.
