After 5 years on Mars, NASA's Perseverance rover may have found its 1st meteorite (photos)
NASA's Perseverance rover spotted a possible space rock on the surface of Mars. The meteorite's nickname is 'Phippsaksla.'
On Mars, winds constantly stir up whirlwinds of fine dust. It was at the center of two of these dust devils that the SuperCam instrument's microphone, the first ever to operate on Mars, accidentally recorded particularly strong signals.
Mars’s Coloe Fossae reveals a landscape shaped by ancient ice ages, with deep valleys, cratered terrain, and frozen debris flows preserved from a time when the planet’s climate dramatically shifted.
NASA's Perseverance rover has obtained evidence that the atmosphere of Mars is electrically active, detecting electrical discharges - what one scientist called "mini-lightning" - often associated with whirlwinds called dust devils that regularly saunter over the planet's surface.
NASA scientists were baffled after uncovering a rock on Mars that didn’t belong there — with a composition pointing to potentially interstellar origins. “This rock was identified as a target of interest,” the space agency wrote in a recent blog post detailing the potentially intergalactic gravelstone.

Curiosity finds long-lasting habitability signs on Mars
Mars has long looked like a dead world, but Curiosity’s decade of fieldwork has steadily revealed a planet that once offered stable water, chemical energy and a surprisingly Earth-like environment. The rover’s latest results deepen that picture,
