Statistically, Nimmo is a better hitter than Semien. The outfielder is coming off a season in which he swatted a career-best 25 home runs and slashed .262/.324/.436 over a career-high 155 games. Semien, meanwhile, has been in decline over the past two seasons; he posted a .230/.305/.364 line with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs in 127 games last year.
In a one-for-one contract swap, the Mets are sending 10-year veteran Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers for Gold Glove second baseman Marcus Semien. The Mets gave Nimmo the weekend to decide whether he wanted to waive his no-trade clause or not and after two days of deliberations and a discussion with Jacob deGrom, he agreed.
