Michigan coach Lloyd Carr and was the top prospect in the state for the 2024 cycle. Winning the recruiting battle set things in motion for him to develop into Notre Dame's starter, but until now the timetable for that development was unknown.

After an intense battle throughout the offseason, the redshirt freshman quarterback has earned his chance to take over Notre Dame’s offense as the program’s starting QB. Carr, a former standout at Saline, was named the starter for the Fighting Irish Tuesday afternoon – the program announced the decision on X.

CJ Carr will be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback when the No. 6 Irish open the season at No. 10 Miami on Aug. 31.
