The idea unquestionably would create one of the biggest shake-ups in baseball and likely end the long-standing format that MLB has operated under for more than 100 years.

On Sunday night, Commissioner Rob Manfred revealed some of the details pertaining to his ideas regarding Major League Baseball’s next round of expansion. He said MLB will grow from 30 to 32 teams, but it won’t happen until sometime after he leaves office, which he says will be in 2029.

In an interview during ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” broadcast from the Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pa. on Sunday night, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred reiterated his perspective on the possibility of expanding the league to 32 teams and the likelihood of rearranging the various divisions based on location.
