U.S. President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on August 18 in the Oval Office, alongside European leaders from Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. The meeting followed Trump’s August 15 summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska.

The fast-moving developments in Trump's near-back-to-back summits with the heads of Russia, Ukraine and European powers have highlighted a pair of repeated sticking points.

It was a rare gathering inside the White House. President Donald Trump sat down with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders, all in hopes of moving closer to ending the war in Ukraine. One of the obstacles for Monday’s meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy will likely be what Trump has called “land swaps,” though all of the land in question belongs to Ukraine.

This is the second call by both leaders in this month after Donald Trump levied a cumulative 50% tariff on Indian imports.

Ukraine's air force said on Tuesday that Russia launched 270 drones and 10 missiles overnight in one of its largest attacks this month. The air force said it downed 230 drones and six missiles. It recorded strikes at 16 locations with four missiles and 40 drones.
