Cheaper versions of medications to treat obesity, like Ozempic and Wegovy, could be on the market in Canada as soon as January.

It says Novo Nordisk, which markets Ozempic, is expecting a shortage in Canada of the 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg injection pens until early 2024.

Unlike Wegovy, Ozempic hasn’t been officially approved by Health Canada for weight loss, though doctors can prescribe it “off label” for obesity.
