Driving conditions could be hazardous in parts of Michigan as a winter storm builds up for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Strong lake effect snow bands are expected to dump several inches of snow across the Great Lakes region Thanksgiving Day, with the most accumulation hitting the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
A winter storm watch was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 2:36 p.m. EST valid from Saturday 7 a.m. EST until Sunday 10 a.m. EST for Oceana, Newaygo and Mecosta counties.
More intense snowfall and wind is expected in the western and northern parts of the state. The NWS said up to 8 inches and gusts up to 55 mph are expected through Thursday morning in central and west central Michigan.
According to AAA, Thanksgiving is the busiest travel period of all American holidays, with Sunday and Monday after the holiday the busiest time to travel back home.
Michigan is in for a windy, rainy and snowy week, with weather officials expecting almost 2 feet of snow in some UP spots.
