New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani asks 179 staffers who work for Eric Adams to resign
The incoming Mamdani administration has requested the resignations of 179 city employees, mostly political appointees by Mayor Eric Adams, ahead of Jan. 1.Most of the 179 employees work in the mayor's office at City Hall.
Mamdani, a democratic socialist and state assemblymember, will make history as the first Muslim and South Asian person — as well as the youngest in over a century — to serve as New York City mayor.
Zohran Mamdani will be sworn in as mayor on Jan. 1. His request for resignations targeted political appointees.
Jared Walczak, vice president of state projects at the non-partisan Tax Foundation, voiced opposition to Mamdani's proposed tax hike, saying the policy risks a gradual erosion in the high-earner tax base and revenue losses that would accumulate over time.
