Gill, who is not playing in the 2nd India-South Africa Test and was not picked for the ODI series as well on November 23, is expected to next play in 3 ODIs against New Zealand.

India are set to host South Africa in a white-ball series following the ongoing Test. The white-ball series includes 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. The Ajit Agarkar-headed selection committee announced the ODI squad on Sunday (November 23).

India’s ODI series vs South Africa starts on November 30 while the T20Is begin on December 9 and shall end on December 19. As far as the ODIs are concerned, neither India’s skipper nor vice-captain shall play.

In Gill's absence, his Test deputy Pant was in line to get leadership duties for the three-match ODI series against South Africa, but he was not considered by the selectors.
