India are set to host South Africa in a white-ball series following the ongoing Test. The white-ball series includes 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. The Ajit Agarkar-headed selection committee announced the ODI squad on Sunday (November 23).

In Gill's absence, his Test deputy Pant was in line to get leadership duties for the three-match ODI series against South Africa, but he was not considered by the selectors.
