The entire West Michigan lakeshore is expected to be a flashpoint for storm-force winds as they hit as high as 57 mph. The region is under a high wind advisory until late Thursday night. Despite the hazardous conditions, West Michiganders flocked to Holland State Park to see the resulting 12- to 16-foot waves as they crashed in.

Two winter systems are coming together across the northern U.S. this week, bringing the potential for heavy snow and strong winds across the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest.

According to AAA, Thanksgiving is the busiest travel period of all American holidays, with Sunday and Monday after the holiday the busiest time to travel back home.

More intense snowfall and wind is expected in the western and northern parts of the state. The NWS said up to 8 inches and gusts up to 55 mph are expected through Thursday morning in central and west central Michigan.
